Jay has been riding and racing, in one venue or another for 33 years. Jay can give your the benefit of all those years of experience during your individual training sessions. Jay’s use of state of the art radio communications and videography equipment makes Jay’s training techniques unique.
During one of Jay’s full day, private lessons he will walk the track with you (track manager permitting) carefully pointing out reference points for braking, turn in, turn apex, exit points and visual reference points for blind turns. Track walks typically take place the night before the first day of track sessions.
The morning of the lesson Jay will be on the track with you at 730 sharp. He’ll help you get your bike through tech inspection, make sure your gear is track ready and will attend the rider meeting with you at 830.
Before your first session on the track Jay will talk you through the perfect race line and will illustrate on a track map. As he talks and draws your line around the track he will blend what you saw on the track with what you see on the track diagram and explain how to take the fastest line around the track.
During your first session on the track Jay will lead you around the track at a moderate pace carefully riding the line you discussed in the pit. Jay will then pick up the pace to one your comfortable with; a pace fast enough to challenge you, but slow enough that you’ll have the focus necessary to practice riding your line rather than just surviving. With the use of one way radio communications Jay will talk you through the line as he leads you through the line. After a few laps he’ll wave you by and follow as you ride the last few laps, getting input from Jay via radio as you go.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and a video is even better. Jay uses a V.I.O. POV 1.5 helmet cam to video your performance on the track. Upon returning to the pit you will get immediate visual feedback and instruction from Jay as you watch your track session video. Jay will coach you on what went well and what needs more work, showing you exactly where and why on the video. Because you’ll be his only student, you’ll get his full attention and have plenty of time to talk through the video of your last session before you’re ready to practice what you learned in your next session.
The entire day will be tailored around your skills, needs and progress. At the end of the day you’ll have the benefit of Jay’s experience and instruction and you will be provided a copy of the videos shot during the day so you can reinforce the lessons learned after the day is done.
